We constantly extend our infrastructure to give you the highest reliability and ensure the best performance.

Enterprise-grade storage, no compromises! All of our hosting plans and limeDEDICATED servers run on super fast Solidigm D7 Series - the enterprise grade datacenter SSDs from Intel/Solidigm, which have performed great in all tests. These SSDs offer 1,100,000 IOPS with read access speeds of 7,100 MB/s and write access speeds of 4,200 MB/s. In combination with the new NVMe controllers we reach one of the best I/O performance currently available on the market.

We employ high-end enterprise grade hardware for all of our servers and take care that they are never overloaded. A standard that's far from common in the hosting industry.

Data Center

We operate our entire server infrastructure at the NTS / ColoZüri data center in Zurich-Altstetten, with Nine Internet Solutions AG as our colocation partner. In our own lockable rack we benefit from 24/7 access, biometric access control, video surveillance, redundant cooling and emergency power supply.

NTS / ColoZüri is a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient and carrier-neutral data center with a direct connection to the SwissIX Internet Exchange. As a RIPE member, Nine operates its own redundant network under AS29691. In addition, we monitor power and traffic of our rack around the clock via the Nine Cockpit.

Our backup servers are located in a separate rack, physically separated from the rest of our infrastructure and running in their own isolated network segment.

Our Server Configuration

To be honest, we don't have to hide our system configuration. We invest in top-tier hardware so your sites run fast and stay online. For the tech guys among you — here are the current specs of our web servers:

RAID

All SSDs run in a RAID-1 respectively RAIDZ (ZFS RAID-5) mirroring setup. If one SSD fails, the server continues to run undisturbed and the defective SSD can hot-swapped.

Failover

For each physical production server, we run an additional fallback server with similar hardware equipment, which in an emergency situation can take over at any time. For replication, we use ZFS snapshots.

Redundancy

All servers and infrastructure components operate in a fully redundant setup, both on network and on power level. In case of a failure of one component, the other takes over immediately and without any disturbance for our customers.

Separate Backup

Our backup servers are operated in a separate rack, physically and network-wise separated from the rest of our infrastructure. We create nightly full-system backups including all customer data, regardless of the hosting plan.

Offline Backup

In addition to the backup servers we transfer all data to encrypted external drives on a weekly basis. These drives are stored physically disconnected (offline) outside of the data center (off-site).

Encryption

All data transfers, both inside the internal network of Onlime GmbH and to our backup servers, are secured by encrypted connections.

Green IT

Onlime exclusively draws "naturemade star"-certified green electricity from EWZ (Elektrizitätswerke der Stadt Zürich). By choosing ewz.ökopower Onlime promotes the renewal and the construction of hydroelectric power plants to the highest ecological criteria. Also, the purchase of ewz.ökopower promotes the construction of additional solar power plants.

We operate our servers at the NTS / ColoZüri data center, which runs on 100% green electricity from renewable sources. Additionally, we have chosen the «ClimateCare» option from our colocation partner Nine for our entire housing plan, which fully offsets the CO2 emissions.

We also support Solarspar and ewz.solarzüri. Since 2014 we took a share in the construction and operation of a photovoltaic (PV) system on top of the school building Buchlern in Zurich.

While expanding our infrastructure and with each new server purchase we pay close attention to energy efficiency. We only use power supplies with 80plus Platinum (> 94%) certification and prefer components of the 'efficient-line' of our main supplier Thomas-Krenn.

1000% carbon compensation

Those three zeros are not a typo! In addition to the above commitment to green electricity and energy efficiency, we offset our total carbon footprint tenfold.

Via myclimate we calculate and offset the annual carbon footprint by taking the following factors into account: Workplace (heated area), electricity consumption (entire server infrastructure, workplace), travel to and from work by employees, business travel, meals, coffee/tea, materials and waste.
